Wintergreen’s Community of Communities

Wintergreen is a truly unique “Community of Communities”. In addition to the Wintergreen Resort and its homeowner association WPOA, Wintergreen has many grassroots organizations which enhance the enjoyment. In the past year, many new residents have moved to the community to discover and experience the beauty and serenity of rural mountain and valley living. For those residents and others, here a short summary of the main organizations:


The Wintergreen Property Owners Association

The umbrella homeowners association for Wintergreen property owners. Manages the Fire and Rescue Service, Police Service, Public Works Service and administers finances and government of the association. WPOA also maintains a community information website.

Wintergreen Resort

Wintergreen Resort is a four-season mountain resort on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, located in Nelson County, Virginia and the town of Nellysford.. Opened in 1975. the resort is owned by EPR Properties and managed by Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. The Resort has several top restaurants on the mountain, in addition to premier seasonal skiing and mountain golf as well as year-round golf in the Valley.

Friends of Wintergreen

Friends of Wintergreen, Inc. (FOW) is a 501 c(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the Wintergreen and nearby Blue Ridge Mountain communities by promoting the area, improving property values, and providing community services. Friends of Wintergreen was first established to stop the Atlantic Coast Pipeline at Wintergreen. With that completed, FOW now has three new initiatives: 1) Promote the Wintergreen Area 2) Increase Property Values and
3) Provide New Services to the community, one of which is Favorite Place (below).

Favorite Place

Favorite Place is a new, multivendor website free to Wintergreen owners. It is sponsored by Friends of Wintergreen and recognized by WPOA and Here To Stay in Wintergreen, among others. Favorite Place provides an easy way for homeowners to obtain, schedule, and pay for various services ranging from house cleaning, handyman, plumbing, carpentry, lawn care, dog sitting, child care, specialty foods, etc. All providers are vetted.

The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen

Dedicated to sustaining the ecology of Wintergreen and its surrounding Blue Ridge Mountain Community through conservation, research, and education. Programs include maintaining extensive hiking trails/ programs, lecture series, and research programs. There are two large nature conservancy sites within the 11,000-acre Wintergreen area maintained by the Nature Foundation. In addition, Wintergreen has over 30 miles of mountain and valley hiking trails also maintained by the Nature Foundation.

Organizes group and tournament play for Wintergreen residents.

Wintergreen Music

Conducts an annual Summer Music Festival featuring national and international artists, a student academy, and other featured performances during the year. Wintergreen Music’s Summer Music Festival is nationally recognized as a premier music venue and sought by top artists around the country.

Did You Know?

WPOA maintains a full time Fire and Rescue force consisting of over 30 full time and volunteer firemen and EMTs in two stations (mountain and Valley) staffed 24/7.

Wintergreen also maintains a full time fully state certified police force on duty 24/7.
